Around the Nunnery

About 250 nuns pursue and practise Dharma full-time. Each nun also has her own individual duty in the nunnery, be it filling up the offering bowls with water before the puja or lighting up butter lamps. Some older nuns look after the cooking and cleaning. The senior-most nuns are often in semi-retreat.

The nuns get support through performing prayers, pujas and phowas (transferrence of consciousness for the deceased). The annual highlight of the pujas is the 100,000 Tara prayers, which are conducted after the Tibetan New Year. Tara pujas are highly recommended by Gurus to speedily clear general obstacles and for creating positive conditions for the practice of Dharma.

The nunnery is run by Pema, a lay administrator, with assistance from two other nuns. Several individual volunteers and sponsors also help the nunnery on a long-term basis.

Our Joy of Appreciation

To our supporters and sponsors, we thank you so much for all your valuable time and resources to help us have a place to practise the Buddha's holy dharma, the source of liberation and happiness.
