THE ONLY SAKYA NUNNERY OUTSIDE TIBET
Established by His Holiness Sakya Trizin in 1994, it is a non-profit community supported by lay disciples and noble-hearted friends around the world. With the eventual completion of the new wing, it will be home to almost 250 nuns. The Nunnery is in Dekyi Ling Tibetan Colony in Dehradun. It is about 5 minutes drive to Sakya Centre, as well as to Dolma Podrang, His Holiness Sakya Trizin's residence.
SAKYA NUNS' INSTITUTE
A Sakya Nuns' Institute has been set up by Ven. Khenpo Gyatso, principal of Sakya College. It used to be a Retreat Centre and is now converted to a educational training institute for the nuns. The Institute is in Manduwala, about an hour's drive to Dehra Dun. It is near the Ngor-Ewam Monastery, where H.E. Luding Khen Chen resides.
The Institute is under the umbrella of Sakya Nunnery's non-profit community. In 2007, the very first group of 35 nuns from Sakya Nunnery will have the historic opportunity to study under Ven. Khenpo Gyatso. They were selected by drawing lots.
